[Harp-L] anti feedback devices
I recently had one of my owners sell his AFB due to not needing it with my
amp, as is drives sound with a very pure tone and lots of volume. We all have
different directions for harp, mine has always been, don't mess with the
frequencies that give you the juice in the middle of the range. I tested with a
Peavey Feedback Eliminator, red lights up for every frequency feeding back, so
you could pull that feedbacker down, get louder, see the other frequency you
need to pull, do that, all that can be done in the circuit with various mods
and builders have done them for me. But if it enhances your playing, great,
go for it. If it substitutes for you doing the work, where someone who can't
push the amp or has tone yet can just get loud, it may hinder their growth and
how to actually produce it yourself, that is my concern with some of these.
Also, if we are blues players, and the harp player is now way over the band,
they will just come up to get there or over you, and the true meaning and
feeling of what blues is, dynamics, building solos, goes out the window in a
loud mass. Dave Barrett will tell you how important technique is in bringing out
volume in an amp, but the bottom line is, if you like something and feel
good about your playing with it, go for it. . Between high end mics, gadgets,
pedals, and everything else, harp players probably spend more money on stuff
than most other instruments. Jason Ricci plays at high cutting volume levels
when he needs to, but is such a versatile player he breaks it down like a
roller coaster so it is pleasing to the ear. Good luck on this one,

know the difference between strong amp volume and additional added amp volume.
To each his own, give me a stand up bass player, tasty guitar player, and a
drummer who doesn't thing brushes aren't just good for painting, and a harp
player out in front naturally like Sugar's band and it is a blast from the
past. I understand today's bands all too well. But again, if it helps you
without hindering, great.
